Can Nifedipine And Atenolol Be Taken Simultaneously To Control Hypertension More Effectively?

I have high blood pressure that is difficult to control. Atenenol brings it down well, but currently my doctor has me on Nifedipine due to recent studies that Atenelol does not prevent stroke as well as Nifedipine. The latter does not seem to bring it down as well. I am experiencing bp 210/111. Can I take both to bring it down?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you can take both these antihypertensive drugs together.
Nifedipine and Atenolol both have been different mechanism of action, so effects will be summed when taken together.
Also consult your doctor about this.
Newer antihypertensive drugs like losartan, telmisartan are also good options.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
