Can Naproxen Be Taken For Ankle Pain?

I have an ankle pain for 2 weeks. Went to the doctor, he took X-rays and everything - bonewise - seems fine and my foot is stable. I don't remember to sprain it, actually the pain started as a small uncomfortable pain,m which turned into a situation that I decided to see a doctor. I am doing all the RICE, people with ankle sprain advised to do. Still swollen and painful. My doctor gave me naproxen (500mg). Doesn't help with the sharp pain, only with dull pain and only for temporarily. My doctor said I can exercise and run as long as no pain, but after 2 weeks I am still unable to walk without pain. How long this sprain will last?
