General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

While you are on the Minoz, or minocycline tablets, you should also have been advised to do some topical creams to help control the acne like benzoyl peroxide or tretinoin cream. The antibiotic tablets are good to control acne that doesn't respond to creams alone, but are usually tapered down once the acne improves. Some people require longer courses, but it is never a good idea to settle on antibiotics as a long term solution, because resistant bugs will start to develop.

Be very regular and persistent with the creams, because acne is a problem that needs continuous management. Don't expect a quick cure, some people simply grow out of it, but others need treatment way into adulthood.

You need continued follow-up with your doctor to assess your acne control. He or she should see you at the end of the course to decide the next step, instead of just abruptly stopping the treatment on your own.

Hope this helps, and all the best to you.

Regards,
Dr. Teh
