Can Methylphenidate And Guanfacine Be Taken Together For Treatment Of ADHD?
My step son is 7yrs old and was recently diagnosed with ADHD, against my husbands wishes the child mother has allowed his Dr, a DO doctor to put him on these medications Methylphenidate ER 20mg each morning, Methylphenidate HCI 10mg at lunchtime and guanfacine (tenex) 1mg at suppertime, and also has been an actinc theripist with the child. I am wondering if this combination is safe and if this combination is suppressing his appetite and making him either too sleepy or wide awake. I am looking for a medical opinion as we are currently in a custody battle. Thank you
Both drugs, methylphenidate and guanfacine are stimulant for the central nervous system. It's combination used for a better outcome. If the child is too sleepy or awake, try to change the timing of sleep and regulate it.
Though this happens during medications starting phase and gradually subside. So both drugs can be given safely.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
