Can Lidocaine Be Applied On The Face For Acne Treatment?

so to start off, I get super bad razor burn. So, I bought this anti razor bump gel to help prevent those annoying and ugly little bumps. Anyways long story short, after applying it it seemed to work quite well. I got to thinking that if it worked well for those bumps, it might work well on my acne on my face...so I tested out a small area just to see. Again the redness seemed to go down and overall I was pleased with the results. The gel s primary ingredient is 2% Lidocaine.... So my question is, is lidocaine safe to use for the face? Is it just me - or can it work for acne as well?

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it is just local anesthetic cream means which takes away pain sensation.

Maybe because of lesser pain or itching no touching or probing or scratching is the result which may be one reason for quicker recovery and lesser infection incidence however it isn't the standard treatment for acne. Acne may need gram-positive coverage or atypical coverage antibiotics and the local application of Doxycycline etc.

Long term use or over usage of local anesthetics isn't recommended as it alters with nerves action potential and sodium channels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
