Can Levothyroxine Cause Acne?

The only pattern I can think of is that when I increases my dosage of levothyroxine to 125mcg from 100mcg my acne returned which I had pretty much eradicated for a few years at least. Can this medication be the cause of my problem. I am taking Trimethroprim to combat the problem, but I dont want to be on this long term. I am already suffering from stomach upset down to probably having no friendly bacteria.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

levothyroxine is not related to acne. Trimethoprim is not the best option for acne. You should check with a dermatologist for potential causes and the most appropriate treatment options.

Best Regards,
Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis,
