Can Ketoprofen Be Used While On Eliquis?

My husband is taking eloquis, he has been taking it for over a year and probably will continue taking it for the rest of his life. He had DVT in his leg a couple years ago and it was severe enough for the doctors to say he should take elequis indefinatly. He is in a lot of pain, from his left leg-below the knee to his foot- his foot willl freeze or become numb if he is too active. My question is this: I heard about this Ketoprohen cream that can help take pain away and I want to know if my husband can use that.

I appreciate your concern for your beloved husband.
It's not safe to use Ketoprofen cream while on Eliquis.

Using Ketoprofen cream while on "blood thinner" like Eliquis apixaban may increase the risk of bleeding.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs including those in topical preparations such as eye drop and analgesic cream/ointment/gel can interfere with clotting and cause bleeding, especially when used regularly or for prolonged periods.

He should seek immediate medical attention if he experiences any unusual bleeding or bruising, or have other signs and symptoms of bleeding such as dizziness, red or black stools, coughing up or vomiting fresh or dried blood, severe headache and weakness.

However, in view of the above harmful interaction I would advise him to consult his treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer pain reliever .
