Can Ibuprofen Taken In Short Intervals Cause Any Side Effect?

Hi, my 11 year old is 80lbs. He had surgery yesterday and was told to take 2 otc adult ibuprofen for pain. I gave him 2 pills at 9pm and 4 hours later at 1am I gave him 2 more for pain. Now I am concerned I accidentally gave him too much to close together.

hello excessive use of pain killers can cause kidney problems.but in your case after post operatively usually pain killers are prescribed but to a certain limit and after a specific time duration.some painkillers are long acting and can be taken only once a day or twice but some pain killers are short acting and can be taken four times a day.pain killers are excreted through kidney if taken in an excessive amounts or long duration that is for more then 14 days they can make renal(kidney) stones.
