Can Ibuprofen And Prednisone Be Taken Together?

I am taking prednisone for sciatica -- in day 5 of a 10 day regimen (started with 6 pills x2 days, then 5 x 2 days, and am now taking 4 pills x 2 days) -- and have been taking acetaminophen to relieve pain but it has not been working so well, particularly at night. Is it safe to take ibuprofen with prednisone? Dosage of 600 mg 3 times a day OK? How about antihistamine for nighttime?

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about drug interactions.

As both the drugs are anti inflammatory in nature and can augment the side effects of one another.

These both drugs are dangerous to stomach problem, they can erode the lining of the gastric mucosa and cause gastric ulcer or gastritis.

You need to inform your doctor about the dosage of ibuprofen and the prednisolone before you start taking them and keep monitoring the gastric pain or for upper GI BLEED.
Although these combination are given to patient with severe osteoarthritis and end stage tumors but must be avoided in simple pain cases.

Hope my answer will help you and visit us back if you have any questions further.

Regards
Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
