Can IPV And PCV Vaccinations Be Given Painlessly To Infants?

My child (5 weeks old) has already received 4 vaccines (DTwP, Hepatitis-B, Hib, & Rotavirus). We had to opt for DTwP instead of DTaP, as the later painless version was not available in the market. My child suffered a lot with severe pain, screaming & minot convulsion as well. Now, my child is scheduled to have 2 more vaccines (IPV & PCV). Now I have few queries. (1) Is it true that DTaP is being withdrawn from market due to its inefficacy? 2) Is there any painless version available for IPV & PCV as well in India? (3) Will these IPV & PCV be as painful as DTwP? (4) Which one is better? PCV-7 or PCV-13?

Hello,

The DTap consists of combination of:
Tetanus toxoid
Inactivated Diphtheria toxoid
Acellular Pertussis
and that is given for the first time to child as well as adult for initiation of combined coverag , later on booster doses consists of various parameters with age range.

That vaccine is not withdrawn from the market and its freely available. So far as the painful experience of previous vaccine is concerned, there is no painless version of the vaccine, but with lesser bore needle as we use 26 number gauge needle size in pediatric patient over antero lateral thigh compartment is very less painful. The PCV 13 is better over PCV 7 as it covers more strains with better
efficacy of immunity levels.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
