Can I Take Adderall And Suboxone Together?

I take 60 MG Adderall and around 4 mg of Suboxone . I ve been on both for 10 years. My Doctor wants me off the Suboxone because he tells me it s dangerous. I have Spina Bifida without it I d be on many types of drugs. It saved my life when I started to take it. It helped me to get off many pain medications prescribed by my Doctors. I keep telling him with my condition I can not afford to pick and choose which one I should take. Even though I don t feel the Adderall as much as I did before I started the Suboxone. I wonder if the suboxone has an affect on the adderall. I tried to stop taking both drugs 2 years ago. I was a mess. I had to be admitted to the hospital for sever pain . I became very ill after detoxing from both. I began to take other drugs for my ADHD . 200 MG of Provigil was one then some others. None worked for me. I had to go back on my Adderall. It s been very hard for me to get my Doctor to give me the 60 mg I used to take. As for the suboxone I ve decreased my dose on my own. Even though my Pain Doctor was against me decreasing it. I sometimes have to increase due to my pain . Most of the time it seems to be ok with the smaller amount. I know I can never stop taking Especially after how much I suffered 2 years ago. I d like to know why my Doctor wants me to stop the suboxone knowing about my health issues? My pain Doctor has no problem with me taking both drugs. I don t abuse drugs & they are the only drugs I take. I m 59 years old and still walking with out any help of a cane. I ve had spina Bifida my entire life. The ADHD was diagnosed in my late 30 s . I know I suffered for years with it with no medications. My life changed when I started taking non generic Adderall. The prescriptions have since changed when the generic brand came on the market. The generic brand has sent my body into changes . I often wonder why the FDA has not looked into what they use to make up the % used for generic brands. Having these issues with the drug has made me wonder what I should do. If they don t do something about the generic brands on the market I feel I might try something I would never have done my entire life. It has made me look in areas I do not want to go. I need to have the medication I used to take. The non Generic is imposable to find and to get from the doctors. Someone needs to be accountable for this mess. WHY ISN T THE FDA DOING ANYTHING FOR THE PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM THE MIXTURE THEY USE IN THE GENERIC BRANDS. AT FIRST I FOUND A BRAND I COULD TAKE BUT THEY SOON BECAME UNAVAILABLE. IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF THE ADDERALL ON THE MARKET IT AWFUL. PLEAS GIVE ME SOME IDEAS WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. You have two main issues and you are taking treatment from two different doctors. You are on Adderall for ADHD (attention deficit disorder) and on Suboxone for pain due to spina bifida. First of all you should discuss with your doctors again and explain the situation of severe pain to psychiatric doctor. Suboxone consists of Buprenorphine and the drug is sometimes used as abused drug and the drug is known to cause dependence and tolerance. This is the probable reason that your doctor has asked you to stop using the drug.

You are responding to medicine and has reduced the doses by self also and take the drugs as per prescription also so I don't think there is need to stop using that drug. Continue to take your drugs of ADD and no need to discontinue the drug.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
