dear healthcare magic user.
humira is quite safer in side effects compared to the first line drugs like
corticosteroids and
mesalamine. But doctors dont prefer it for two reasons
1.there is a very high incidence of developing severe infections because it reduces immunity to a very low level.
2.reports indicate that there is increased incidence of developing blood cancers with use of humira
thats why doctors prefer the first line medication, because in most they will help in remmission and doesnt affect the immunity that much.
and the side effects need not be deadly in every patient.
It is not proven to be beneficial off the meds in remission and only on diet though diet modification certainly helps.maintain upto 1000 kcal of carbohydrates per day and protein intake upto 60-100 gms per day. you can try solid food in the morning and then softer foods plus liquids at evening.avoid any beverages, coffee, tea.sodas and any sour products and no spices.keep the food plain and simple with least amount of oil. this helps in relaxing the gut and gives time to rest.
there are latest treatment options like use of antitubecular drugs. in latest research they have given promising results in inducing remmission for longer periods.
hope i have answered the question .good luck and good health.
