Hi! I got married on 20th sep of this year, My wife is Pregnant after 1 n half month of marriage. But as she went for a regular check-up to Dr. they suggest Gravibinan to her, On weekly basis. I just wanna ask if its normal? Or any side effect of this injection on Baby. Should we go for this or not. Rite now everything is normal. No problem with her or Baby.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Dear. Gravibinan contains a drug called Hydroxyprogesterone which is used for Reducing the risk of delivering a baby too early (preterm birth). Hydroxyprogesterone should only be used by women who are pregnant with one baby and have had a preterm delivery of one baby in the past.

Hydroxyprogesterone is a synthetic hormone (progestin). How it works to reduce the risk of recurrent preterm birth is not known.

Do NOT use hydroxyprogesterone if:

1. you are allergic to any ingredient in hydroxyprogesterone, including castor oil
2. you are pregnant with more than one baby or you have other risk factors for preterm birth
3. you have never had a preterm delivery of one baby in the past
4. you have blood clots, blood clotting problems, breast cancer or other hormone-sensitive cancers, or if you have a history of these conditions
5. you have undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding not related to pregnancy, yellowing of the eyes or skin caused by pregnancy, liver tumors or other liver problems, or uncontrolled high blood pressure

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

I dont think Gravibinan was necessary in your case. Kindly take a second opinion of another doctor before taking the drug.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
