Can Gabapentin Be Taken Without Having Any Nerve Damage?

Hi, I am diagnosed with herniated disc L5 s1. I started experiencing pain in my right leg but when the doctor performed a electro diagnostic Eval bilateral lower extremities, he said I have no nerve damage. He still prescribed Gabapentin 100mg up to 6 capsules daily. I don t understand why I need to take it if I don t have nerve damage?

Hi,
Gabapentin is used for neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain may not be always associated with nerve damage. Simple nerve compression as in your case may also be associated with neuropathic pain.
Hope this may be helpful to you, if so do vote.
