Can Fexofenadine And Piriton Be Taken For Recurring Hives?

Hi I was in hospital overnight and given oral Fexofenadine and iv Piriton and IV Steroids, Since coming home I am covered in Hives again. Can I take both of these antihistamines. If so do I take them togehter. I also am on a 4 day course of Prednisone. Starting tomorrow. But I don t want to go back to the hospital again tonight.

Hello,

It would be fine for you to take the Fexofenadine with the steroids that you are taking, as that would normally be the treatment for hives.

You asked about both of these antihistamines but one of them is IV, so I am assuming you mean only the Fexofenadine. In either case, you only need to take one of these antihistamines.

But I would also recommend you take a 2nd generation antihistamine as well, such as cetirizine or loratadine.

If despite this your symptoms continue to worsen or if you have any swelling of your lips or any trouble breathing, you would need to go back to the hospital as soon as possible.
