Can Exelon Patch Be Taken Along With Beta Blockers?

My mother is 89 and is on Coversyl, she has recently been diagnosed with Dementia and her GP has placed her on Exelon Patch 5 to assist. I have looked up Exelon Patch on the net and the advise was not to be taken with Beta Blockers (Coversyl). Should I contact her GP with what I have read or is that just a standard statement?

Hello,

Thanks for Writing to Health Care Magic and putting trust in us regarding your Health related query.
I am Dr. Saleha and I have read your message in detail, I understand your concern and will try to help you in this.

I am sorry to know about the problem you father is having, Exelon patch (Rivastigmine) Is a good medicine for dementia i positively hope that he will respond well to this drug. I wish his brisk recovery.

As far as interaction of the drug with a beta blocker is concerned, Yes you read it right , Exelon patch has serious interactions with Beta blockers so it should should not be used along with bet blockers to save the patients from any serious problems.

But there is a catch, Coversyl (Pernidorpil) is NOT A BETA BLOCKER, it belongs to a class of drugs called, ACE inhibitors, and ACE inhibitors have no documented interaction what so ever with Exelon patch , so in my opinion you can use both the drugs together without any major alarm and concerns.

I would like you not to panic , everything should be fine using these drugs together.

I hope this answers your question. If you have more questions, I am happy to answer.

Wish you lasting health.

Regards.
