I read your question carefully and I understand your concern. Drugs like Evista are indeed associated with a higher risk of stroke or other cardiovascular occlusion events. For that reason their use is questionable in an elderly lady, having also high cholesterol and family history of such events. I am not saying it is contraindicated since you don t mention any other risk factors (high blood pressure, diabetes), so if other options for osteoporosis are not possible it could still be taken as osteoporosis carries its own risk of complications, it s a question at times of weighing the risks and choosing the minor evil. If however other options like Fosamax which you mentioned to have taken with no side effects are possible I think you should discuss their use with your doctor. I hope to have been of help.
