Can Effexor Be Taken For Hot Flashes Post Hysterectomy?

I had a total hysterectomy(tubes, ovaries, cervix, uterus)in may. I am on Effexor xr to help with hot flashes. Although hot flashes have slowed down, I can be sitting on a chair and all of a sudden start sweating to the point my hair is soaked. Is this normal after a hysterectomy?
