Can Dulcolax Overdose Cause Health Complications In A Child?

I just gave my 9 years old son 3 tablets of dulcolax and noticed he is only supposed to take 1 tablet. He weighs about 100 pounds. Is he safe with the 3 tablets I gave him? I m worried I may have given him a bit more since I take 3 I thought he could take 3 as well. Can you pls tell me what should I do?

Hello,

You should always give medications after consultation with the doctors. The adult dose is 10mg & 5mg for children aged 6-12.

Since you have given an overdose of Dulcolax, get connected to a doctor & keep him informed about the overdose of medication you have give. If he instructs to get admitted, do so.

In case of emergency call 911 (Emergency) or rush immediately to the hospital.

Symptoms when a given overdose is:

1. Severe abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
2. Rectal burning
3. Fainting attacks
4. Difficulty in breathing, restlessness, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
