Can Cortisone Be Taken For Burning Urination And Inflamed Penis?

Hi, I had a bad case of diarrhea for two days, took Imodium and it stopped, but apparently, yesterday morning after showering a noticed a very severe redness on my penis. I had no burning sensation when urinating, and have been using Cortisone 10. Plan on calling my doctor s office on Monday and will seek an appointment. I am a male of 77 years and live alone and have been without any partner for over 40 years. Should I continue with the Cortisone 10?

Hi,

Noted your history of using cortisone 10, the reasons note mentioned, had diarrhea for which you have taken Imodium and now have redness on penis.
Since I am not sure about the indication for Cortisone that you are taking I can not tell whether to stop or not.
For the diarrhea and red penis I would advise the following:
Send the samples of stool, blood and urine for lab.
If there is any evidence of infection then you need a prescription based course of an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics.
For red penis the cause can be balanoposthitis and diabetes should be checked for.
Clean the are with normal water, make it dry and apply liquid povidone iodine.
Consult your Doctor for proper clinical evaluation so that the reports can be correlated and additional management as per the cause done.
