Can Claritin Be Taken Twice A Day?

i took one claritin tablet at about 8 am. During the day developed a head cold with a good deal of sneezing and runny nose. Can I take either another tablet at bedtime (c.11pm) ? Or, better, can I take Coricidin HBP Cold and Flu, which contains 2 mg of Chlorpheniramine for at least overnight relief?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Claritin is commonly prescribed as once in a day medication. If it is not effective and your symptoms comeback before next dose, you can change to Coricidin HBP. Coricidin (325+2mg) can be taken to relieve allergic symptoms. You may also change to Allegra, Levocetrizine, Avil, Benadryl etc. In addition to medication please do steam inhalation to relive rhinitis.avoid cold and sour foods.

Avoid dust and pollution. You can use nasal decongestants like Autrivin, Nasivion along with oral antihistamines for added effect. You can also use a short course of steroid as nasal spray or orally if symptoms do not respond to antihistamines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Roy
