Hello,

Betamethazone is usually given if you are anticipating early delivery before term. If you have a short cervix, if you have ruptured your membranes or if there is prior history of preterm labor you may be advised betamethasone to reduce fetal complications. There are no serious side effects for the drug except for a small rise in blood glucose level.

It has a definite role in preventing hyaline membrane disease and necrotizing enterocolitis of premature newborns. It also has a neuro protective role. It is usually taken when early delivery is anticipated and you have mentioned that your current pregnancy is uneventful. May be you can confirm with your health care provider for the indication of antenatal steroids in your case.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
