Can Benicar Cause Kidney Damage?

My Mother has kidney problems and had blood work done last Friday and the kidney doctor just called and said her blood work was worse and said for her to stop taking Benicar. She stopped taking that last Wednesday night. Do you think that it could be the Benicar that is causing her to have kidney issues?

Hi,

The Benicar usually doesn't lead kidney damage. But in the rare case, it can affect the kidney. If diabetes, hypertension like risk factors for nephropathy not present than drug-induced kidney injury might be a possibility.

So it's better to stop this drug and again check your serum creatinine and urea to look for improvement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
