Can Benadryl Or Hydroxyzine Be Used For An Insect Bite?

Hi, yesterday I was stung by a wasp. I take generic OTC Zyrtec daily for allergies, the sting is in on my right bicep and is red, light swelling, 3+ inches across. It is itching a lot and I want to know if I can take Benadryl or hydroxyzine to help with the itch since I have taken Zyrtec today. I have also applied Benadryl otc cream to the sight.

Hi,

Taking Benadry or Hydroxyzine while on Zestril may cause dizziness, severe drowsiness, impaired concentration and thinking, it may also cause motor in-coordination which can result in falls and injuries. So, it is not safe to take Benadryl or Hydroxyzine while on Zyrtec. I would advise hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion for itching or skin irritation. You should also take a tetanus toxoid shot if you have not had a booster shot in the last 10 years.
