Can Benadryl And Oxycodone Be Taken Before Rotator Cuff And Biceps Surgery?

I have rotator cuff and biceps surgery today. I am currently resting at home with oxycodone. I normally take a Benadryl tablet at night to help me sleep. Is this OK? I had one oxycodone at 3 PM EST and another oxycodone at 7 PM EST. I have been instructed to take two (2) at 11 PM and (2) at 3 AM tomorrow morning. Thanks for your help

Hi,

It is not safe to take Benadryl while on Oxycodone. Taking Benadryl together with Oxycodone may cause profound drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating, impaired thinking and motor coordination.

So you are advised to just adhere to the preoperative instructions given by your doctors.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
