Hi I have a bottle of Amoxicillian from July of 2011 the seal is still intact my tooth broke over the weekend and thought to ask if I could use these pills, I have no pain but thought if I started taking the pills I would potentially keep any pending infection at bay...can I or should I wait? Thank you
antibiotics are pretty much an essential part of treatment. Antibiotics for tooth infection are very effective, and the most common antibiotic for tooth infection is probably amoxicillin, a type of penicillin.Amoxicillin is good at being absorbed when taken in tablet form by mouth, and better if you have something to eat when you take the tablet. It's effective against many bacteria, and is called "broad spectrum". A plus point is that you only need to take three doses a day, so it's easier to keep track and take the course correctly.
It would be wrong to self medicate yourself with antibiotics. Antibiotics are to be taken only when there is an active infection. Today's scenario we are compounded with a problem of antibiotic resistance. If there is pain you can consider using a analgesics.
