General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, Ambien may be taken for insomnia.

Xanax (Alprazolam) is a 'sedative' commonly prescribed to treat anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and anxiety caused by depression.

Ambien (Zolpidem) is a sedative and hypnotic commonly prescribed for the short-term treatment of insomnia brought on by trouble falling asleep. This may help you go to sleep and stay asleep longer.

However, it may cause drowsiness so you should not drive or do anything that requires you to be alert the day after taking Ambien.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
