Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently had a gastric bug and cold for the last few days thus have not been eating much. I have a generalised anxiety disorder and take 40mg Prozac am and .75mg of alprazolam bd . I drank 7 cans of beer from lunchtime and around 6pm took my .75mg of alprazolam and went to a bistro for dinner. On return at 630pm was breathtested and the reading was .103 mid range. Would the alprazolam have increased my blood alcohol levels.
As you mentioned in your question that you drank 7 cans of beer which are enough to raise the blood alcohol levels to the range mentioned above. Alprazolam can not increase the levels of alcohol in your blood. I would suggest not to take Alprazolam after drinking alcohol as drinking in combination with Alprazolam can result in fatal respiratory depression—or dangerously slowed breathing.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manreet Benipal, General & Family Physician
