Can Aleve Be Taken Instead Of Hydrocodone To Lessen Pain Post TKR?

I have been taking hydrocodone for tkr surgery pain. There are days when I am not in severe pain. Would it be alright to take two Aleve instead of hydrocodone on less painful days, but still take hydrocodone the next day if pain is more severe (say after a PT session)?

Hi,

Definitely, Hydrocodone is a strong pain killer but it is a habit forming drug also, if used for a long time. Due to its euphoric effect, some times it becomes difficult for the patient to wean off from this drug. Where as Aleve is a drug used for chronic continuous pain of low intensity. It is usually not a habit forming drug. However, due to its effect of fluid retention in the body, rarely, it may adversely increase the heart load of body.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
