Broke My Front Two Teeth. Need To Get Root Canals And Crowns. What Else Could Be Done?

about 3 weeks ago i broke my front two teeth pretty much in half which has made me need to get root canals and crowns but as my dentist is busy right now i have to wait a while so they put temporary fillings over the exposed nerves to protect it. but 5 days ago the left filling came off and started hurting again due to the exposed nerve being sensitive so i went to the dentist and they put another filling over it, then the exact same thing happened with the other tooth 3 days ago, except this one doesn't hurt and isn't sensitive at all, i assume the nerve is dead? so i haven't felt the need to replace the filling on this tooth and have just left it, Is this ok? or should i really go and get the filling replaced? also the one that has been replaced has started to ache in my tooth my root and the gum and is starting to get quite uncomfortable is this an infection? what shall I do? Thanks, Mark

hello and welcome HCM forum Mark,
I would like to inform you that the fractured teeth need a root canal treatment at the earliest before the infection spreads. One tooth might have been fractured to a greater extent than the other one due to which the pain persists in one tooth only.
X-rays will reveal which one of the two needs a root canal treatment or may be both the teeth need a root canal treatment.
It is completely okay if the tooth is not sensitive and the filling has dislodged.
You don't have to get the filling redone until pain is present.
I will recommend you to see your dentist soon.
The infection from the fractured tooth infects the nerves beneath it , it further spreads to the soft tissues which can cause a swelling if the treatment is delayed.
You can perform warm saline rinses(3-4 times/day), helps in relieving pain.
use an antibacterial mouth wash(twice/day), prevents infection.
Also, if the swelling appears you can take a painkiller, but this will not take care of the infection , therefore kindly visit your dentist.
i hope i answered your query,
i wish you good health
take care.

Hello there,

Thanks for writing your query.

Trauma to a tooth will lead to pulp tissue death even after treatment.

So i would suggest you visit your dentist and get the root canal treatment of both the teeth done and get the crowns for same teeth.

This is the only best option of treatment in this case.

Hope this will be helpful.
Take care.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

The filling placed in your tooth is temporay, unless your canals are completely devitalised, disinfectedand sealed to the apex you will face pain and infection.
I would encourage you to visit to the Dentist and get the treatment completed.
Take complete course of antibiotics and analgesics.
Placemant of prosthetic crown on the root canal treated tooth is necessary as the tooth becomes brittle and cannot withstand the masticatory forces and the chances of fracture increases.
Maintain a good oral hygiene, use antiseptic mouthwash rinses.

Hope this helps out.

Hi ,
Thanks for asking query,
You got front teeth broken to half due to which pulp get infected , if you not get it properly treated it will lead to spread of infection leading to darkening of tooth and periapical abscess.
I suggest you to visit your dentist and get the root canal done it include complete removal of the infected and devitalized pulp, followed by filling with inert material in canals.Have the crown over the tooth after rct it will provide strength to the tooth.
take tab oflox- ornidazole twice , tad voveran 50 mg thrice, use antiseptic mouthwash.
hope this will help you.

Hello and welcome to hcm forum,

The broken front teeth are periapically infected .
This has to be root canal treated as soon as possible.
The pain is due to the infected vital pulp present within the canals.
The pain will stop once the entire pulp has removed.
The other tooth is not painful, which may be due to-the tooth fracture is not pulpally involved or the infected pulp has become non-vital.
Please get x-rays of the area prior to treatment.
Take complete course of antibiotics too.
Maintain good oral hygiene.
Take care.

Dentist Dr. Farah Hussain's  Response

Hello there ,

Thanks for writing your query,

Your clinical history suggests you have traumatized your upper front teeth , impact injury or trauma may necrotized the tooth nerve tissue or dental pulp.

When the tooth is grossly injured, it becomes weak and gets fractured.

We can save such fractured tooth by root canal procedure, provided the periodontal status of the tooth is good. That is, if the tooth is not mobile.

Root canal procedure disinfects the tooth by removing the infected nerve tissue and the root canals are cleaned, shaped and filled with permanent restorative material.

Once the treatment is completed , the fractured tooth can be restored by a post and core preparation with a prosthetic crown coverage.

exact diagnosis can be made only after clinical examination and evaluation by taking radiographs.

so please consider getting the treatment done by consulting a dentist.

i hope this helps ,

take care.
