Breathing Trouble, Tightening In Chest, Fatigued After Starting Metoprolol Tartrate. Any Concerns ?

Hi, I just started metoprolol tartrate about a week ago. It is taken at 50mg 2x daily, and is for hypertension. I am having troubles with breathing and feels like my chest is tightening and I am very fatigued when I am walking to the bus stop, about 8 blocks. I am never having this trouble until taking the metoprolol. I know I can't suddenly stop, but is it a concern for me to have these symptoms, or do I try to wait it out?

Hi there,
Thank you for posting your question. I will do my best to help you
I have tried to understand your query to my best.
With respect to your query, I would like to opine the below:

- Metoprolol is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) & is also used to treat severe chest pain (angina)
-It works by affecting the response to nerve impulses in certain parts of the body, like the heart. As a result, the heart beats slower and decreases the blood pressure. When the blood pressure is lowered, the amount of blood and oxygen is increased to the heart.
-However , will need to consult the treating physician iif any of the symptoms being noticed frequently like -if you are having chest pain or discomfort or chest tightening right away .
-Also review with treating physician is also advised if Unusual tiredness or weakness ,blurred vision, giddiness or fainting is observed after starting the medication .

My sincere advise is to see the Treating Consultant right away as Chest tighness with fatigue is not be neglected and may require an ECG or further investigation or change of anti hypertensive medication accordingly.
I hope that I have answered your questions fully and been of some help. If you have anymore questions please contact me again anytime
Regards,
Dr.Sushma
