Brain Stroke Causing Difficulty In Understanding And Speaking. Remedial Options Other Than Speech Therapy?

recently, one of my family member (male 59 yrs) had a brain stroke and he is not able to understand and speak. Local doctors are calling this as Aphasia and say total recovery is not possible. Partial recovery can happen through speech therapy only. Please suggest if there is any remedy in addition to speech therapy.
