Boil Was Cut Open And Packing Replaced And Heeling. Used Sulfar Antibiotic. Sores Under Tongue. Is This Stevens Johnson Syndrome?
I recently had a boil cut open (I &D) and have been back twice to have the packing replaced and now it is out for good. My question is, I have been on a Sulfar antibiotic for 5 days and I now have a film under my tongue that can be scraped off (painfully) but returns the next day. Also, I woke up with an incredibly stiff and almost unusable thumb today. I am a type 1 diabetic also. I am getting paranoid reading about Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Need I be? I have been to the ER for the first visit as well as the next two follow ups but my insurance is denying my claim so I don't want to go back again. Please help.
Stevens johnson syndrome is a severe form of drug reaction involving the lip, eye and genital mucosa. It white patch of the tongue may not be SJS. It is due to Oral thrush. My advice would be to prescribe Clotrimazole mouth pain for 1 week. Oral thrush is most common in diabatics.
