Blue bruise, swelling, pain at the fifth metatarsal. See the doctor immediately?

my 13 year old daughter came home on wednesday with dark blue bruising swelling and pain at her fifth metatarsal, she doesnt recall doing anything to injure it, the next day after school the bruising cleared up a little and she said it hurt for about an hour then felt numb for the rest of the day, she has an appt to see her dr on the 21st, I am wondering if this is something that can wait until she sees her dr or should i take her to urgent care for xrays?

Hi there,

Pain and bruise usually occur due to trauma, ask your daughter sincerely and to let her recall if there was an accident or trauma in this area hours or even days before.
Children of this age might not tell evrything for fear of bring reprimanded. If there is really none, the level of pain and motion limitation is your only way to judge the necessity to seek immediate care.
If she can still walk and wear her shoes then it might just be something that can wait until your appointment. If the pain is becoming more severe, then it is a sign that we are dealing with a possible fracture and it needs immediate care.
Thank you.
