Blood Test Done For Erythrocytes And Platelet Mean Volume. What Does The Report Suggest?
Recently got a blood test and would like your input on a couple things Test Name: ERYTHROCYTES Result: 4.49 Low Units: mill n/cmm Reference Range: (4.6-6.2) Test Name: PLATELET MEAN VOLUME Result: 7.7 Low Units: fl Reference Range: (7.9-11) What is your personal interpretation? Do you think this may lead to serious problems? What are your suggestions. Thanks
Hi waloak, erythrocytes means red blood cells which are in the lower range which means that your hemoglobin may also be low. It could signify that either your RBCs are not being manufactured properly or they are getting destroyed more than that which are formed. your platelet counts are also in the lower range. Depending on your age, these results can be significant. You need to get your counts repeated again after a week and also get a hemogram done along with a peripheral smear study. If the problem persists and there are any positive findings in your hemogram and the peripheral smear study it may lead to a clue as to the cause. At present you just need to relax till the reports come in.
