Bleeding Post Bowel Movement, Bright Red Blood. History Of IBS. Treatment?

Tuesday morning, after a fairly large bowel movement , I noticed a bit of bright red blood . I m pretty sure there was no blood in the stool . Thursday morning after another fairly large BM, I noticed a little bright red blood. Again, I checked and I m pretty sure that there was no blood in the stool. I do have a easily irratated bowel but I ve been feeling pretty good this week. Thoughts?

how old are you? blood in the stool is "usually" hemorrhoids, however there is no way to completely rule out other causes that can be potentially life threatening such as colon cancer or polyps, or other conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's or Ulcerative colitis). The older you are the more likely you are to have colon polyps, that is why people over 50 years old should get a screening colonoscopy. If you have never had a colonoscopy you should definitely get one. If you had one recently then I still recommend you getting checked by a GI just to be on the safe side.

General & Family Physician Dr. Sourav Ganguly's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting query.
Blood in stool is due to your inflammatory bowel disease. Need to do a routine blood count, stool examination and a colonoscopy.
Consult with physician, test to be done as per his advice and treatment should be followed by his advice.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr Sourav Ganguly
