Are Weight Loss, Stomach Ache And Rash Normal After Perforated Appendix Surgery?
my husband has just had surgery to remove a preferated appendix, he was in the hospital week and half. It has been 4 weeks since his surgery, he has lost over 20 lbs, his stomach is still achy and when he eats he experiences pain. He has now developed a large rash on the back of his arm, its very red and itchy? Is all this normal? what should he be doing?
Hello The rash wouldn't be related to his surgery and it sounds like an allergic dermatitis that may respond to cortisone cream and oral benadryl.
As for his stomach issues, it could take up to six weeks for his intestinal system to get back to normal after a perforated appendix, but if he till is having abdominal pain his doctor needs to know about that and I would get a ct scan of his abdomen to make sure he doesn't have an abscess left from the appendicitis.
