Are Weight Gain And Legs Swelling Due To Overdose Of Hypothyroid Medicine?

Hi. I am hypothyroid. I am under a doctor s care. I will see the doctor tomorrow. I have symptoms that I believe are associated with overdosage. Can you confirm. My legs and feet swell everyday. My calves are tight and sore. I have a headache nearly everyday. I am not happy. I started to gain weight. I am tired. My chest feels a bit tight. I am a bit dizzy. I realized that these are all probably related to overdosage, so this morning I lowered my dosage. I am still feeling some of the symptoms but not to the same degree. I am sure my doctor will ask me to reduce my dosage. Any other suggestions? Also, is it normal to actually gain weight when you overdose. I would think that I would lose more weight. Also, what about the swelling? The other symptoms seem very obvious.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Thank you for your query.
You do not gain weight or develop swelling because of an overdose of Thyroxine, the medicine for hypothyroidism. These symptoms may occur if the dose is not adequate. If your Thyroid functions are normal on the current dose, you would probably be having another cause like fluid retention for your symptoms which your doctor would be able to detect and treat.
