Scaling and polishing helps you get rid of stains and not the other way round. If the dentist have asked you for a follow up, he might address stains in the second sitting. Also ask for polishing and brushing technique which will help you stay away from stains for long.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
As scalig and polishing are the treatment to relieve the stain and tartar problem, so, these stains are not because of it, but may be a second appointment was't scheduled by any of you or you have not followed the post scaling instructions, like not having tea or smoke for some time,..
So check completely and visit the dentist.
Thank you

One of the reasons for black/ brown staining could be use of a mouth wash containing chlorhexidine. Do check if you are using one. If so, there is nothing to worry about, because chlorhexidine does cause some staining in some people. Hence it is used short term.
Smoking can cause black stains to come back as quickly as they are removed.
The other reason could be if there are any rough teeth surfaces they too can cause the stains to come back.

hello,
i read your problem, scaling and polishing has been done.........
but you did not tell in how many sittings it has been completed.............
anyways these stains are not because of scaling and polishing...........
it is may be having tea, smoking after scaling and polishing, poor oral hygiene,etc........
so you please go back to your dentist, and go for scaling and polishing once again.........
after this please follow all the given instructions, maintain oral hygiene, and use proper brushing technique.............
nothing to get worried.
take care

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Scaling and polishing are done to remove the stains and calculus from the tooth so these stains are not because of this.
Stains can be because of excessive consumption of tea or coffee.
Can be due to smoking.
Other than this use of chlorhexidine mouthwash can cause stains in some people.
I would advise you to schedule a second appointment for you and follow the post scaling instructions properly.

Hope this helps out.

Regards..

Hi,
Thanks for asking query,
Scaling and polishing are the methods of removing the stain , calculus and plaque so there are no chance of getting stains due to scaling and polishing.
There are many reasons for it like remaining calculus after scaling , smoking , food accumulation due to rough surface created by scaling.
I suggest you to maintain oral hygiene, prevent food lodgment , use antiseptic mouthwash, visit your dentist and get it check.
hope this will help you.

Yes improper scaling procedure may lead to developement of rough areas on the surface of the teeth which may incorporate the food stains , smoking stains , tea and coffee stains.

consider getting the polishing done after the procedure .

consult your dentist and get the examination done .

i hope this helps ,

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Scaling and polishing will not cause black stains.

Since the stains has appeared 2 weeks post scaling, this can be due to tea or coffee intake, tobacco or pan chewing.

I would advice to rinse mouth after every meals.
Brush and floss your teeth daily.

Use chlorhexidine mothrinses to gargle.

Take care.

hi...
thanks for the query...
scaling and polishing helps removing the stains and is never supposed to cause it...
it can be due to intake of tea, coffee or due to smoking and chlorhexidine mouth rises...
sovisit your dentist again for the procedure and avoid above mentioned things...

Dentist Dr. Yogesh Tripathi's  Response
hello
scaling and polishing procedure refers to cleaning of all the surface of your tooth and then getting the rough surfaces smoothened
so stains can not be due to that procedure
what i think it that may be either you hadnt been given post scaling instructions or you did not follow those instructions which are
1.avoid tea/coffee for a few days
2.avoid smoking and all nicotine products for a few days
3.avoid food containing coloring agents
this is because after scaling and polishing the tooth surface is more prone to get stains in 1st few days
so now that you see some stains, what i would suggest is that you make a 2nd appointment with your dentist ,get the stains removed and than properly follow post scaling instructions
best of luck

Dentist Dr. Benley George's  Response
Hi,
Stains can be caused due to food, beverages, chromogenic bacteria, tobacco chewing etc. Scaling and polishing removes plaque and calculus and stains. The black stains could be blood oozed out from the gingiva onto the tooth surface. Normal tooth brush is sufficient to remove it. If not a scaling on the stained teeth alone would be sufficient.

hi,

Dental stains are removed by scaling and polishing. It can not happen because of this procedure.
You just have to maintain it. You just need polishing again as it is two week only when u under went scaling.
Just visit your dentist and get the polishing done and ask him for proper brushing method, may be the area which is getting stain is not cleaned properly by you.

Thanks.
