Are There Any Side Effects Of Taking MCV Shot?

My daughter was given the MCV shot, and the redness and swelling has spread to a larger area. In addition, the area is hot to the touch. She has no fever, is slightly tired, and is able to use the arm in spite of soreness, with mostly the usual range of motion. Should I be concerned?

Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I have read you history carefully and appreciate your concern for your daughter.
Measles can cause mild measles-like illness in some cases but rarely cause local redness and swelling. Local redness, soreness and swelling is suggestive of infection which may be due to reaction of injection.
You have not mentioned how large is the red and swollen area. You mentioned the your daughter has got local soreness and swelling but no fever and no restricted movement. In such case, you should wait and watch for 1-2 days. It is expected to resolve on it's own if it's a mild infection.
If you observe any of the following like
1) development of high grade fever
2) pus formation or enduration at site of injection
3) increase in the red area
then you should consult your doctor and need to start antibiotic treatment.
Hope this will be helpful.
Do ask if any further question is there.
Thanks for using HCM. Take care.
