Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is there any oral antibiotics for acne sold in drugstores? If so, which are recommendable? I am an 18 year old female struggling with acne and hiperpigmentation since age 14, I ve tried all kinds of topical gels and ointments, doctor prescriptions, and wash my face twice a day but nothing seems to work. The acne seems to never go away. I was doing some research and thought i might give oral antibiotics a try but wasn t sure if i would need a doctor s prescription or if there was any sold in drugstores.
Understanding your concern. Acne are very common problem .In some persons topical medicines alone are not enough to give relief , in such cases antibiotics can be use along with topical ointments or gels.
Antibiotics act on bacteria causing acne but they do not unblock the pores which is also one of th factor , so it is important to use topical medicines along with antibiotics.
As antibiotics are prescribed medicines they are not available as over the counter medicine. You must consult Dermatologist before using antibiotics. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like tetracyline ,doxycycline or minocycline depending extant and severity of disease.Usually doctor prescribe topical benzoyl peroxide along with antibiotics course around 4 weeks.
Hope i have answered your question , If you have any further question I will be happy to help.
