Are There Any Alternatives To Xanax For Treating Insomnia?

Xanax was prescribed for me as a sleep aid. In fact, it does just the opposite I find that it makes me extremely nervous and keeps me awake with a high degree of tension . How do I get off the stuff and go to a sleep aid that pus me to sleep? Wha would be a good alternate/

Hello,

The effect you describe Xanax does to you is a little puzzling as it's supposed to do the exact opposite, to calm you down, relieve anxiety and promote sleep. However, I do not support its use for sleep, not for more than a few weeks at least as it develops tolerance and dependence.

As for other options... the safest option would be melatonin, that should be tried first. If that is not enough antidepressants like amitriptyline or doxepin may be tried. Suvorexant is another medication used for insomnia. However, you should provide more info for a more precise recommendation such as your age, accompanying conditions, anxiety or depression issues, etc.
