Are Tetanus And Rabies Injections The Right Treatments For Dog Bite?

My 13 years child was bitten by a stray dog. there was a large wound near his knee. however there was no cut or tear off in his trouser. he was given titnus injection within hour.and anti rabies injection(intra muscular) next day, fourth day and seventh day..if there is still any risk, his wound is not healed up yet.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

I can understand your concern for your son who is unfortunately bitten by a stray dog.

It seems your son has developed some sort of infection following the dog bite. He needs to be examined by a doctor for probable use of an appropriate antibiotic along with the wound dressing.

Beside your child must receive the anti rabies vaccines on the following schedule on day 0, 3, 7, 14 & 28 days following the dog bite. Since he has already received the first 3 doses of the vaccine, he should receive the remaining 2 doses as per the schedule.

Hope this answers your query.

A feed back is appreciated.
