Are Swelling And Blisters On Upper Arm Due To Cellulitis A Cause For Concern?

I was diagnosed with cellulitis two nights ago and given antibiotics. I have been taking them. It is on my upper left arm. It doesn t hurt as bad or as irritated but it is still hot, the whole upper part of my arm itches and it is still swollen. Also right around the opening the skin is all raised and looks and feels like blisters. I originally thought it was a spider bite. I am concerned about the swollen and blistery looking part. Any ideas? The doctor also said warm to hot, moist compresses at least 4 times a day which I have done.

Hi,

Well, in some cases of cellulitis the skin appears to be red, swollen, tender and painful. In some cases the skin looks like orange peel while in some cases blistering is seen due to infection and inflammation and is nothing abnormal as it can be seen in some cases. Gradually as the infection will resolve the blistering will subside. For now you need to continue taking Antibiotic as advised to you to reduce infection and along with it continue doing warm compresses.

If the sores are open you can apply antibiotic ointment to create a protective barrier as well as reduce infection. You can also elevate the arm when lying down so that the swelling subside quickly. If the blisters are open and in the form of wound then you can get antiseptic dressing done for faster healing. Also avoid touching the area and also avoid swimming etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
