Hi
HIV is transmitted by participating in unprotected sexual activity that is without using a condom with a HIV positive person.
Generally the symptoms are repeated episodes of fever, respiratory infections, diarrhea, weight loss and all these symptoms do not appear immediately but appear after a particular incubation period.
To know the HIV status immediately you can undergo an RTPCR( reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction) which is quite costly and done in reputed labs.
Do not be afraid too much.
