Are Spinal Cord Injuries Caused By Accident Permanent?

my boyfriend was in a serious car accident about a month ago. he was in a coma for a month and just woke up. he injured the lower part of his spine, and now he is paralyzed from the waist down. is there any chance he will recover from this, and what type of surgeries are done to correct paralysis?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your boyfriend's history and current symptoms.

It is unfortunate that he suffered spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis of legs.

Any surgery for spinal cord injury should be done within 24 hours to have any chance of recovery. Therefore, one month after injury, it is unlikely that he would benefit from surgery.

At this stage, he should undergo physiotherapy, which would result in slow improvement.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
