Are Persistent Red Itchy Patches Due To Welchol?

My Dermatologist took two biopsies of a persistent itchy groups of red patches which had thick scales on top. It cam back that it was a drug reaction, clusters of of eosinophils etc. The only new medication in the past two years was Welchol. The rash began about a month after I began taking welchol. Is that possibly the culprit?

Hi,

It could be drug reaction. A fixed drug reaction usually on one spot incredible. The way to find out is to stop Welchol for a month. Alternatively, go back to see your dermatologist again or be referred to an immunologist or allergist. It is costly and time consuming for a small itchy spot.

If not, you can consult a doctor and do a good physical, a few skin prick tests and rash test---or specific drug test, simple ones or latest more specific test. Having said that, even after that it might not able to solve your problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
