Are Nosebleeds Post A Hit On Head A Cause For Concern?
A piece of lumber fell on my sons head and gave him quite a goose egg. Almost 24 hours later he got a nose bleed. He does get nose bleeds 1 or 2 a months but he said this was the worst one he has ever had. Should I be concerned the hit to the head could be connected to the nosebleed?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Feom the description what you have given, it appears that his hit on the head and nose bleed seems unrelated. Reason being it is after 24 hours and he also has a history if nose bleed. Only thing that needs to be evaluated for this time is he had more bleed than previous occasions. Nose bleed (epistaxis) occurs due to fragile blood vessels in the 'Little's area' of mucisa inside the nasal cavity. Whenever he gets the bleed, ask him to pinch his nose for about 5 minutes. He needs to bend his head forward and breathe through the mouth. He should avoid nose picking. You can consult an ENT Surgeon for further management. This condition can be cured by cauterization of bleeding vessels by chemical or electrical means. Hope the information provided is useful. All the best.
