Are Intake Of Statins Safe For Reducing Cholesterol Levels?

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about two years ago and have been on Metforman ever since. Now my dr wants to put me on a statin drug for elevated cholesterol. I have heard many bad things about statins and would rather not go on one. What is the general consensus about statins and their safety? My email is YYYY@YYYY

Hello,

Statin is a relatively safe and widely prescribed drug.

You can safely start and continue statins without any concerns.

As a first line management, you can try dietary modifications and exercises to reduce cholesterol load.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
