Are Hard, Bruise Like Red Line On Heel And Foot Pain Cause For Concern?

I went to dr 2 days ago for foot pain. my heal hurt really bad and I had a red blotch just below the inside ankle bone. He determined I must have been bitten or something and put me on bacitracin & prednisone now I have a black spot on the heal of my foot with a red line going to the bruise looking purple area that is hot to touch and hard. should this be an immediate concern? I don t feel any worse than I did 2 days ago but no better either. It hurts!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I have read your history carefully.
It looks like you have got thrombosis of superficial leg vein at the site you have mentioned.
You should apply ointment like thrombophob in addition to antibiotic. I don't feel you should continue prednisone.
If your symptoms are worsening then a repeat evaluation is advisable.
You should also get evaluated for varicose veins by Doppler ultrasound.
Hope this will be helpful.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Take care.
I find this answer helpful
